I am an American who moved to Brussels in July 2008 with my rocket scientist husband, because he was offered an amazing job and we would get to live in Europe. I grew up in Kansas, went to college in Pennsylvania, and have been living in New England for the past 8 years (Boston, MA and Portsmouth, NH). I have a Masters degree in Social Work, but as an American in Belgium without a work-permit and barely passable french, finding a full-time job in Brussels is about as easy as finding reason with the management of the Kansas City Chiefs. Luckily I have found some part-time work as a researcher in the U.S. so I’m off-shoring/cyber-commuting–who cares what it’s called, I have a (small) paycheck. I spend my days in Brussels working a little, studying french, embarrassing myself with my french, searching for elusive items (burritos; canned pumpkin; barbecue), and exploring.
I am an accidental, unintentional, and surprisingly happy housewife.
